Does your toddler love to be in control? If your toddler isnt sleeping well, try giving them control over small things such as : which book to read, which pajamas to wear or what song to hear. Certain things should be non-negotiable, such as: bedtime or where they sleep.

Please read if you use white noise! I use white noise with my children and often recommend it to clients - but am always cautious of the volume and location. http://www.nbcnews.com/health/kids-health/white-noise-machines-could-hurt-babies-hearing-study-suggests-n41416

Routines are a huge part of the sleep strategies I create for families. "Research has identified the following categories as having high significance: -nurturing interactions (time spent giving full attention to a child) -mealtimes as a family -bedtimes (for adequate rest) -shared storytimes (reading, story-telling, singing, rhyming)" http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/why-family-routines-matter-and-how-to-improve-them_us_58e3aa62e4b02ef7e0e6e0bd

Nap success can take much longer than night success when sleep training. Families almost always contact me because of sleepless nights, but once the nights improve (usually a few days) the naps become our focus. Kudos to the parents of a 7-month-old fella who really preferred to be held by mom all day long for his naps. They followed my advice around how to handle his sleep preferences and encourage naps in the crib. Well done!
